Physical Appearance
Height: 5' 9" (175 cm)
Weight: 118 lbs (he will be 128 lbs, or 58 kg)
Blood Type: AB Negative
Hair: Black and unruly. Being fine and soft, with quite a few cowlicks, it likes to curl, much to Hayate's mortification. He tucks it under a bandanna or his hitai-ate to tame it.
Eyes: A rich, dark brown that appears black in all lights but sunlight. His eyelashes are enviously long, and his eyes heavy-lidded.
Skin: He tends to freckle rather than tan. His skin is a little dry, so his lips and hands tend to chap easily.
Facial Features: He has a small, neat nose, a slightly rounded jaw, and narrow--often chapped--lips. His dark eyes look larger than they really are for the shadows beneath them, making him look younger than he really is. The dark rings under his eyes make him look ill.
Other Physical Traits: Hayate is tall, long-boned and a little angular, having not finished growing yet. He has an odd sort of loose-limbed grace to his movements. He's not overly muscular nor strong, tending towards a more wiry build. He never moves faster than he has to outside of battle, because of his breathing problems. Hayate has chronic hay-fever: his hoarse cough and the shadows under his eyes are more unsightly than hindering to his performance.
His worst allergy season is from May to July: that's when the horse-chestnut trees bloom. During this time, he's dosed up on anti-histamines, making him sleepier than usual. The medication keeps his head unclogged, at the cost of making him more prone to cat-naps. It's better than hacking up globs of phlegm, though; that always makes team-mates ask if you're dying.
Handedness: He's a lefty, but half-way ambidextrous through much training. His hands are broad-palmed and slender-fingered, but not overly calloused. Hayate tends to wear fingerless gloves to fight. His knuckles get scarred up that way, though.
Voice: A rough tenor that still breaks a little when he's upset.
Identifying Marks: ABNU tattoo on his left arm. A notch is missing out of his right ear. It's small, at the apex of the shell, from a minor accident in his Genin days. He has a large, thick scar on his right knee-cap from constantly skinning it in childhood. He has a recent, still-pink scar on either side of his left fore-arm, where he took a kunai straight between his radius and ulna.
Usual Clothing: On duty, the ANBU or Jounin uniform. Off duty, whatever shirt that's clean and long pants--usually jeans. He wears the knees out of his pants quite quickly. He almost always wears a bandanna or his hitai-ate to tame his hair. Even when not in uniform, he has his fingerless gloves with him, usually stuck in his back pocket. He goes barefoot when he can.
ANBU Mask: Bird, marked with black and red. The beak has a red line drawn that makes it seem as through the bird is smiling. The mask has black tomoe under the eyeholes, making enemies misjudge the exact position of his eyes and minimizing the reflection of light from the white mask. Two red stripes on either side of the forehead resemble angry eyebrows.
Living Situation: ANBU apartment 109, but that's not home and never will be. Home is his aunt's tiny house on Suzume Street, off Tsurusen Square, in the older, quieter, and more civilian parts of Konoha.
Ninja Skills
Fighting Style: Hayate relies mostly on his katana for his attacks. Otherwise he uses kunai. Rarely does he ever fight hand-to-hand. He is easily overpowered in weaponless-fighting due to his slender build. He tends to dodge in the most unusual and boneless-looking manner. He uses the Tennen Rishin Ryu when fighting with his katana, but is learning a much-older style of Konoha from old scrolls. Hayate prefers more straight-forward fights to the usual sneaking-style of the ninja--his strong sense of honor and what is fair is behind this, and sometimes gets him into trouble when he fights. He can usually get out of it, however--he can move fast, and is nearly impossible to see when he's using chakra to enhance his speed.
Preferred Weapons: Katana, kunai, ninjutsu
Special Jutsu: He mixes his ninjutsu and sword skills liberally. He often uses clones to confuse his opponents. He is very good trading places with his clones and using chakra to improve his speed. His two elements are air and earth, though he does not know many jutsu that are overly useful in battle.
His favorite jutsu is the Kage Bunshin technique. He can only produce two at the most, but--either in some trick of chakra or mental manipulation--his clones are surprisingly self-aware. Because of this, he can co-ordinate attacks with his clones with more ease than most other ninja can. The downside of this is that the clones tend to mouth off very badly....
Service Record: Lauded as a prodigy for his sword skills and fighting techniques, Hayate rose in the ranks fairly quickly. He made Genin at 12, Chuunin at 14, and Special Jounin at 16. He's young, but not unblooded. Due to the Kyuubi attack and lack of available ninja, he and his Genin cell handled several high-ranking missions.
Personality
General Personality Traits: Because he moves slowly and is a quiet person, people take him to be dull or unobservant. He is neither. Hayate likes to be aware of everything around him, and is quite curious. He is quiet, tending more towards contemplation than conversation. He is not overly social--quite shy in fact--and it takes a while for him to warm up to people. Once he does, he is quite affectionate and loves to tease. Strangers complain about the width of his personal space and persistent formality--close friends find him easily physical and with a streak for mischief. Hayate has a strong sense of loyalty and duty, especially to his village and his friends. He does not like conflict among comrades, and will do his best to make sure everyone gets along. He doesn't like being in charge--he can do it, but he much prefers taking orders to giving them.
Quirks: He bites his nails when he's thinking. He tries not to. He tends towards neatness, and dislikes anything out of place. It annoys him until he fixes it.
Sexual Orientation: Straight.
Gifts/Talents: He's an excellent listener. He might not have an answer to his friends' problems, but he'll listen to them complain about them. Hayate also has a fine singing voice, but he rarely shows it off. He has a gift for adjusting his own chakra and body-language to deflect a building fight: he is very good at being inoffensive.
Flaws: He tends not to speak up when he should, and sometimes teases a little too mercilessly. Also his sense of honor allows him to be taken advantage of sometimes, usually during fights. Occasionally, he uses his fake smile and persistent manners to manipulate other people into doing what he wants.
Religion and Philosophy: Shinto. Most of the time he doesn't think about it, though.
Likes and Loves: Honey. Strawberries. Bees. Green tea with honey in it. Sunshine. Being warm. Doing his kata. His friends.
Dislikes and Hates: Wasps (with a passion!). Being cold. Trees, especially horse-chestnuts. Ice. Things being out of place. Fighting between comrades. Static and other kinds of electricity.
Fears: Being struck by lightning or otherwise shocked. Not knowing what's going on around him. Losing a comrade or friend.
Dreams and Ambitions: To be the best team-worker he can be. To serve his village with honor. To protect those he loves. To one day retire and keep bees and grow strawberries.
Relationships
Family: His mother and father, were both killed in the Kyuubi attack. His widowed aunt, Ichigono Hachiko, took him in and helped raise him, though in reality they really took care of each-other. His aunt is not all there in the head, and keeping an eye on her has made Hayate a little more mature than his age usually is.
Friends: He is good friends with the two from his Genin team, and Uchiha Katsura, a classmate. He also has a few civilian friends that he occasionally keeps in touch with.
Lovers: None, though he's dated a current total of three girls. (The only reason he's not still a virgin is his Jounin-sensei, who believed a virgin ninja could be exploited far too easily. On making Chuunin, each team member got "treated" to the services of a prostitute.)
Hero: His father, who was a ronin samurai and taught Hayate the Tennen Rishin Ryu.
Enemies: None that he knows of.
Personal History: Hayate was mostly taught by his father, a samurai who knew no other way to live. Hayate's mother was a ninja and decided her son needed to learn more useful skills. Hayate was enrolled in the Ninja Academy accordingly. He learned willingly, being a curious and observant young thing. He actually dislikes the sneaking and assassination style of being a ninja, but he genuinely enjoys fighting and improving his skills. His sense of honor--imparted by his father's teachings--kept him as a ninja, especially when he saw how much the village relied on the ninja. As the higher ranks of Jounin and Chuunin were dangerously thinned by the Kyuubi attacks, Hayate's sense of honor and duty kept him climbing the ranks to help his village. However, as soon as he thinks he may no longer be needed, he intends to retire to a quieter sort of life.
Special Notes: With his good fighting skills and inventive battle strategies, Hayate is usually assigned missions where guarding or extra protection might be needed. Because he's fast on his feet, he sometimes acts as a courier, running missives or important documents between teams or headquarters. He's quiet and inoffensive, so he has no regular partners. |
